A team of avenging angels takes on the evil Hun in an enjoyably old-fashioned French film.
Set during the Second World War, resistance fighter Louise (Sophie Marceau) heads a squad of women commandos sent behind enemy lines to rescue a wounded British agent. While her team includes a disparate set of characters – including a streetwise prostitute
(played by Julie ‘daughter of Gérard’ Depardieu), a cabaret star (Marie Gillain) and a nervy explosives expert (Déborah François) – these gals are patriots to the core.
Based on the wartime exploits of heroic partisan leader Lise Villameur, the team must also attempt to kill a top-ranking German officer who, they fear, may have discovered the looming Normandy landings.
It all makes for a riveting period drama that fans of the recent Black Book will lap up.
